Waas Bakery: Polyurethane Food Grade Flooring
Waas Bakery in the Shetland Islands needed a new floor that was long-lasting, tough and, perhaps most importantly, easy to clean. Using our years of experience, Floortrak suggested complete removal of the old floor to be replaced by a polyurethane food grade flooring. One of the main reasons we suggested polyurethane flooring is because it forms a smooth, seamless surface, eliminating the dangers of cracks or crevices where food particles can hide and breed nasty bacteria. The floor can also also withstand harsh chemicals, making it easy to clean and keep hygienic – two very important factors for a bakery floor. This type of flooring also comes in a range of colours, ideal for matching brand, has an anti-slip surface and is highly durable.
We removed the existing tired vinyl floor and upstand ready for the new installation. We then applied a damp-proof membrane followed by a 100ml high upstand around all the perimeters. A 6ml polyurethane food grade flooring was then installed in a soft green to match the bakery’s branding. Once this had cooled, the team cut and filled the expansion joint to help protect the floor from expanding and contracting with temperature changes. We also installed steel plates on the floor to allow hot oven trays to be placed upon them to cool down.
